I honestly started with Wicca before I merged into Paganism and then Mysticism and Spirituality altogether. Llewellyn has a myriad of books out there on Wicca for beginner’s, and I recommend them all. Some authors are fluffy or blah, but in the craft, all we are is knowledge (the soul is an immortal center of gnosis), so absorb as much as you can from all sources and just make your own mind up. You’ll eventually start with a pantheon (as most do), I chose Greek and Norse.. and felt comfortable there (still am!). Some choose Asatru only, some choose Kemeticism only.. some go voodoo or root working.. depends on what you’re interested in.
Many beginners do also start with being eclectic.. and absorbing tidbits from all over to weave their path… so experiment and play around with what your soul is telling you.. with what in your soul feels right to believe in. Many people want to make others think their religion or beliefs are exclusive and no one outside of their race or group cannot participate, but remember that we are divine souls beyond ego, and it is their ego telling them they own spiritual copyrights on certain practices.
Start with the beginners books, then study symbolism, pick up a dream encyclopedia (can be used interchangeably as a symbolism resource book) and use it to decode your dreams, and pick up a divination tool. Runes are easiest.. just work with symbols altogether because that is what the occult runs on, essentially. Working with a diviantion tool will teach your mind how to stitch together symbolism (which is crucial in magic and manifestation). By weaving meanings together, you learn aspects of the occult no other might understand.
The whole point of these paths is to grow, expand the soul, connect with body and nature, study the self, connect with the higher realms, and be better prepared to handle our reality— and of course the main point: become the master of our universe by knowing this esoteric and occult knowledge. By having this knowledge, you’ll see how you are advantaged over those who don’t know it. This is called esoteric.
If you want to get deeper and find the beginners books have been absorbed, pick up Tarot (full of occult) and pick up Tarot books to learn that… much more complex and is a powerful occult tool for being in control of your reality. Other great stuff to look into is simple herbal magic, crystal energies, the 7 primary chakras, the law of attraction, basic metaphysics, sacred geometry, and so on. As you absorb more knowledge and learn to trust yourself, you will begin to open your psychic center (or third eye). Once this opens up, you can begin stimulating it more by practicing meditation, visualization, and will power exercises.
You will suddenly begin having more psychic experiences, such as receiving messages, following your gut instincts, fixing your problems through your dreams, and so on. In this path, Knowledge Is Power, so you will never truly stop learning.. also, I learned best when I started by joining pagan forums and wiccan forums. Mentors are extremely helpful! Don’t be afraid to learn from others, and as you learn, you’ll begin to feel the empowerment that occult knowledge gives, but always try to be humble and don’t be afraid to allow wiser people to guide you. Also, another major thing about this path is that we spiritualists accept that we are both student and teacher in all situations.
Hope that helps… good luck.
